Short answer, yes it can. This can occur if a non-approved stove is used in our tents (our approved stoves are the Colorado Cylinder Spruce Stove or any size of our Colorado Stoves), or if the stove is operated at excessively high temperatures, as warned against in the owner’s manuals.
We recommend using a magnetic thermometer on your stove pipe to ensure the temperature does not exceed 500 °F, which is the maximum threshold for the stove jack. If the pipe runs red-hot and exceeds this temperature, it can cause the stove jack to melt.
If your stove jack needs replacing, we suggest purchasing a 5-inch silicone stove jack online or at your local hardware store and having it installed by a local canvas repair shop.
