No - it is not required or necessary. All of our canvas tents are made with UV-resistant materials and provide excellent protection on their own, even in high-sun environments.
The cover top can be a great addition as it offers an extra layer of protection against prolonged sun exposure, helps with temperature regulation, and keeps the roof cleaner over time.
